MP Encourages Homebuyers To Have Their Say
An inclusive ‘Housing Review’ is being conducted by Local MP Tom Clarke; who is seeking to engage with Homeowners in a bid to establish the views of people in communities across his constituency. It would appear that buying domestic appliances such as: a fridge a cooker or a washing machine come with more of a guarantee than buying your own home. That is why each household in ‘The Paddock’ in Muirhead will receive a questionnaire, which the MP is hoping residents will be kind enough to complete.
The MP said:
“Building more homes to meet the obvious housing shortfall will dominate the political agenda for the foreseeable future, not just for the next year, but for the next generation. That is why I need to be informed about what is actually happening; engage with people, understand their experience so that I can ensure that the voices of my constituents are properly represented. Above all I am probing for practical ways to improve the rights of people when purchasing a home. I want to go beyond bricks and mortar, and put a new and positive emphasis on homebuyer’s rights’, needs and aspirations.”
“I am interested in contributing to this important debate from a homebuyer’s perspective, not least, because I have received complaints from new homeowners who have spent an absolute fortune and yet they feel really miserable and let down by various agencies associated with buying a home”.
North Lanarkshire Councillor Joe Shaw said:
“This is a really interesting and enterprising initiative taken by our MP Tom Clarke. I warmly welcome his proactive approach to a problem that is local to the communities that I represent. Housing is a massive problem for many families. It is important that the views of people in our communities are loudly and effectively heard in this debate, and I have every confidence that our MP will ensure that is exactly what will happen”.
The MP continued:
“In today’s housing market buying a home is a heavy financial commitment that lasts a lifetime. It is without doubt the biggest and most expensive decision that people have to make. Therefore my aim is to ensure that there are adequate efficient and fair procedures in place, designed to protect the needs of homebuyers. Nor can I ignore the fact that far too many young people are experiencing enormous difficulty getting on to the housing ladder. In part it is because of a housing shortage but also because buying a home has become incredibly expensive”.
“Before I can help homeowners I need to know what is right about the entire process and what needs to be changed. The very best people to help me are those who have most recently bought their home. Their experience will be invaluable to me as I seek to establish the facts on the ground. I hope they will share with me their own personal experience. An evidenced based survey is much more authoritative and more likely to influence the outcome”.
“That is why I am providing the opportunity of homeowners to ‘HAVE THEIR SAY’ The more residents who respond the more accurate and respectable the findings will be”.
The MP concluded: “I would be very pleased if everyone would complete the questionnaire and be kind enough to return it to me. This is not a prescriptive process as there is provision for residents to cover issues outwith the questions that I have posed”.
