GARTCOSH-GATE: MP Demands Progress Not Broken Promises

Tom Clarke MP has reacted furiously to the prospect that the much-heralded crime super-campus being delayed once again raises genuine fears that the project could be shelved indefinitely.  He is calling for an end to the uncertainty and demanding a positive outcome.

Mr Clarke said: “We were told back in 2004 when the super-campus was announced that it could open as early as 2006.  That means we are running a staggering four years behind schedule.  It is absolutely ridiculous.  It is beginning to look like this whole project is aimlessly going nowhere.  This is an unacceptable state of affairs and wouldn’t be tolerated in any other business environment”.

The MP added: “Gartcosh Industrial Park should be a burgeoning site for new business to locate bringing with them new jobs.  Hearing negative noises about possible delays are mightily frustrating.  Anyone who knows anything about Gartcosh fully appreciates that the sooner this new Police Agency is established on site the sooner this entire site will be developed.  Conversely with every delay comes a ‘stab in the back’ to those of us who have battled for years to ensure this site reaches its maximum potential”.

The MP concluded: “In the fullness of time we are talking about a site that has the capacity to accommodate a couple of thousand of jobs.  We need to kick start this project and get the momentum going.  This would be a great boost to the people of this community and bring much needed job opportunities to this area during this difficult economic period”.
